Autumn is my favourite season.



It used to be summer but that was years ago. Before I began feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the intense heat of our Mediterranean summers. Added to this discomfort was the knowledge that this intense heat was a result of the greenhouse effect and that Spain is in an accelerating process of desertification. Now there's something you'll never hear from a travel agency!

I live in a beautiful place, a small village called Beceite and just taking a walk around the countryside can be therapeutical for the mind and body. The larger area is covered with forests, mostly of pines, and there are extensive olive and almond groves, as well as vineyards. The olive trees and the pines don't change from season to season but everything else does and it's in Spring and in Autumn that they are at their best. Quite a show of colour and splendor!



In the midst of this beauty that surrounds me, I am still unable to shake off my creative block. To my surprise, I found refuge in fractals. Fractaling relaxes me and also re-awakens in me the wonder of discovery. While I stare at my papers and colours in awe, wondering if I will ever be able to use them again, I idly play with fractals like a child.

Maybe it was time to become a child again. Just for a while.



Some of the colours of autumn made it into my spirals. I thought that it would be nice -fun, at least- to place some large fractal prints among the trees and bushes that are changing their colours for the season. An open-air installation of sorts.

The days are still warm but the nights are getting cooler and cooler. Too soon for the frost to appear but I already have my woolen sweaters at hand.



I'd like to paint with my hands. Nothing is stopping me except the need to finish this journal entry. I'll smudge my hands with soft pastels and paint on paper. Then I may add some lines and dots, some scribbles, a small collage...

Did I just have another artistic idea???
Going back to simple. Quite a journey.
