At loooong last the interview was released on Wednesday 20 February, at seven o'clock in the morning! A cruel hour for those of us who like sleeping late. I didn't even set the alarm clock, I was happy with watching the video recording. But my inner clock went off at 07:05 and my eyes opened wide so I thought, what the heck, I'm going down to watch the show!
It was a dark, rainy morning. The street lights didn't come on at all that night and my living-room, lit only by the TV screen, looked like an eerie place floating in a cosmic darkness. A couple of lightnings cracked high above and bathed the surrounding fields in blue light. A perfect setting for a horror film and there was I, sitted on the sofa, watching three clowns talk about fractal geometry. No disrespect meant, the actors actually behaved as clowns, because "Leonart" is a show for the young, remember?
Well, in those surreal circumstances I finally saw myself onscreen and a cascade of fractal images illustrating my explanations. Fun! I'm really pleased with the result, the whole thing came out nicely and so my friends tell me too. When it finished I went back to bed and slept for an hour and a half more

.
Yes, I've been having continuous problems with the poor thing, it's quite old and tired. More than a week ago it suddenly started going slow -and I mean slooooooowwwww. Working with Photoshop is next to impossible, even when the files are small. It can take half a minute to apply a single brush-stroke on a 10 mb file -and I usually work with 180 or 200 mb! Word has become very lazy too. When I type a two-line sentence, for instance, I'm about putting the final fullstop in when the first letters of the sentence appear on screen. And updating this journal is quite a feat too!
The hard drive starts whirring and keeps on whirring for a full half hour, and while it does the computer is useless, I can do nothing with it. The friend who sold me the hardware cautioned me to make back-up copies of everything, as this could mean the hard drive is saying farewell to me.
So I'll be buying a new computer soon and in the meantime there's not much I can do. I guess posting the TV video will have to wait for a few more days. You'll be the first to know when it's done.
Since my computer is behaving a bit this morning, I'll grab the opportunity to feature the work of a photographer:
laflaneuse
Her lens reaches beyond the surface of the objects she shoots, her darkroom techniques create an emotive, painterly world. Her realistic subjects are just a threshold to a world where objects and concepts become dreams, feelings and pervasive memories. And her masterful use of composition brings everything together in wise, meaningful works of art. I applaud her sensitivity and I hope you will enjoy a walk through her gallery.
