An Open Letter to the Anti-AI Fanatics
I've been reading through the frothing rage and hatred towards anything AI-related on dA and getting increasingly annoyed. I've been hearing this same shit all my life. Forty years ago when I plugged a Koala pad into an Apple ][ for the first time, "real" artists assured me what I was doing was no better than tracing because it wasn't a physical medium. When I started using Lightwave, Amorphium, Zbrush, and Poser 20 years ago, the same "real" artists told me I was just playing electronic dress-up dolls and didn't require any skill or talent. And here we are, with me hearing all the same crowd bloviating about anything touched by AI not being "real" art. I'm curious, have any of you furiously shitting on AI actually tried using it? The argument I keep hearing is that all you do is type a sentence and you get a finished, complete image stolen from someone else's art. Leaving aside the fact that modern AI doesn't steal imagery, it simply trains itself on the skills and styles of

Midjourney is not your art
I don't come here a lot anymore. But when I do, I do so to see what's getting produced by the community. "What's popular today? Is it still provocative overweight anime horses and sexy lingerie model photography?" Usually it is...on the front page, at least. Having helped build this site into something-more-than-nothing I know that the front page, for all its purported attempts at sophisticated algorithmic-based sorting, is not really a reflection of the talents of the millions of members. However, it is a reflection of what's hot right now. And what's hot right now is AI-generated imagery. DALL-E 2, Midjourney, and probably 2-3 others that escape me right now. There are a number of reasons why you folks should not upload this stuff: Under the ToS of most of these systems, you don't personally own the art. The art is owned by the creators of the software that generated it. The art is generated by a system that scrapes the web looking for imagery it can categorize as something. It

After having considered leaving da for a while then complaining about the eclipse update and it's follow-ups I will now (better have to) leave this platform. It kinda hurts because this community was really kind to me and for a while it was the only place where I found space for my creativity - for a while it was actually the only social exchange I had. I am not writing this because I want you to feel sorry or hearing I'd be missed. I am only announcing my decision because I want to say thank you. Thank you for every comment, every exchange (also critic!) and every single sign of support. Since the last 6 years I've been through a lot (which I don't want to/cannot write here) and it was always channelized in my work. I also did a lot of experimenting and tried to develop my personal style - which then led to the hindsight that I don't have one. This is just my personality I am not one-sided or specialized. I am curious and easily bored (also by myself). Nevertheless I always felt
